Overcoming Genetic Tendencies In Hyperthyroidism and Graves Disease

I'm sure that people with hyperthyroidism and Graves' Disease figure that the primary reason why they developed this condition is due to genetic factors. And while people who have a genetic marker for a hyperthyroid condition are of course more susceptible to developing the condition, this doesn't mean these conditions can't be prevented.
In fact, research is showing that lifestyle and environmental factors play a greater role in the development of these conditions. The book "The Autoimmune Epidemic" states that research studies have determined that 70% of autoimmune conditions are caused by lifestyle or environmental factors. So for someone who has Graves' Disease, modifying certain lifestyle and environmental factors can have a great impact on your health. And the same concept applies with hyperthyroidism, as lifestyle factors have a greater influence than genetics. I was personally diagnosed with Graves' Disease, and I'm certain that modifying certain lifestyle and environmental factors played a big role in my recovery.
Modifying These Lifestyle And Environmental Factors Can Help Cure Hyperthyroidism & Graves' Disease
So now that you know that lifestyle and environmental factors play a greater role than genetics, here are some of the things you can do to help restore your health back to normal:
1. Eat better. Most people eat too many refined foods and sugars, which will cause problems with the blood sugar levels, and over time will compromise the adrenal glands. This in turn will affect digestion, immunity, and other areas of the body, and can set the stage for hyperthyroidism, or an autoimmune condition such as Graves' Disease. So you ideally want to eat a diet consisting mostly of whole foods, trying to eat as many organic foods as possible. Because most people have nutritional deficiencies, taking certain supplements is also important for most people. Rather than self-treat your condition with supplements and herbs, it's wise to consult with a holistic doctor who has experience dealing with endocrine disorders such as hyperthyroidism and Graves' Disease.
2. Obtain sufficient sleep. Getting at least seven to eight hours of quality sleep each night is essential for anyone trying to achieve optimal health. Many people neglect this area of their health, as many stay up late watching television or surfing the internet, and then wake up early for work. Doing this every now and then usually isn't a big deal, but those people who consistently obtain six hours of sleep or less each night are likely to develop health issues.
3. Improve your stress handling skills. Not doing a good job of dealing with stress can lead to the development of numerous health issues, including hyperthyroidism and Graves' Disease. I realize you won't be able to eliminate the stress from your life, but if you're like most people, then you can do some things to improve the way you handle the stress. Doing this can have a profound impact on your health, and doesn't necessarily involve meditation, deep breathing, etc. (not that there is anything wrong with doing any of these things, as these are great ways to better cope with stress). I personally believe that chronic stress was one of the main factors which led to the development of my Graves' Disease condition.
4. Minimize your exposure to environmental toxins. Just about everyone is exposed to dozens of chemicals each day, many of which are toxic to our body. In fact, there are dozens of toxins out there which can have a negative effect on our health. What's scary about this is that we don't know the potential side effects of many of these chemicals. However, most people can minimize their exposure to these toxins. A great place to begin is with your own home, as most people bring in toxic chemicals into their own house without realizing these products are toxic. Many of the household cleaners, cosmetics, and other products do have an effect on the immune system, as well as other areas of the body. So it is possible that environmental toxins can lead to the development of an autoimmune condition such as Graves' Disease. Therefore, avoiding these toxins is important for anyone who is looking to restore their health back to normal by following a natural treatment protocol.
In summary, modifying these four lifestyle and environmental factors is essential for anyone with hyperthyroidism or Graves' Disease who is looking to restore their health back to normal. While making such changes isn't easy to do, those who are willing to make these changes will benefit from the most from a natural treatment protocol.
